Rolling/Drawing Line Operator

Hickman, KY - Plant

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Other duties may be assigned.

 

Level 1 Requirements:

  • Demonstrate safety equipment and machine safety awareness
  • Always maintain neat work area
  • Must possess and be able to read a micrometer
  • Know and understand the rolling/drawing line terminology
  • Read and understand the wire build sheet
  • Safely and correctly load coils with crane or forklift
  • Understand the operation and functions of a wire pointer
  • Understand the operation and functions of a butt welder
  • Make a good, clean butt weld with adequate strength for the production process
  • Remove and retain heat tag from rod coil
  • Obtain forklift operator license
  • Spend a minimum of 4 hours observing welding operation to gain an understanding of how events at the rolling line can affect the welding operation, such as diameter control and spool packaging

 

Level 2 Requirements:

  • Thread up vertical payoff and mechanical descaler
  • Know when and how to change wire lube and understand the purpose of the lube
  • String up cassette/die box while maintaining the correct number of wraps on the block
  • Adjust rolling cassette/change dies to keep wire at desired size; must have a good understanding of how to correctly size the wire
  • Set counter - footage per spool for correct length of spool
  • Fully understand automatic spooler, manipulator, and manual spooler and their functions
  • Demonstrate all manual and automatic operations of the rolling/drawing line
  • Safely load empty spools and unload full spools from conveyor or manual spooler area
  • Complete the required quality inspections - diameter and roundness (micing and correctly tagging every spool produced, providing the required samples to Quality Control)
  • Complete production reporting in computer accurately
  • Spend a minimum of 4 hours observing the quality control operation to gain an understanding of the procedures and quality specifications

 

Level 3 Requirements:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and purpose of rolling line/draw machine terminology
  • Program and understand the XYCOM workstation and all its functions
  • Troubleshoot when problems occur
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to perform the operator preventative maintenance checklist

 

Level 4 Requirements:

  • String up wire drawing machine for a complete changeover
  • Demonstrate ability to change out cassettes and resize wire
  • Maintain efficient and quality production on machine being operated
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to train others

 

Level 5 Requirements: (Optional)

  • Obtain Shipping Department certification
